Precautions
Swelling and bruising may occur after surgery, and how long they take to subside varies from person to person. In rare cases bleeding, infection, inflammation, or left–right asymmetry may occur, which may require additional treatment. Because infrabrow excision involves an incision below the brow, an incision line forms there, and how the scar settles depends on your skin condition. Please tell us at your pre-surgery consultation about any medications you take, including blood thinners such as anticoagulants, as well as any medical conditions and whether you smoke. During recovery, please avoid alcohol and smoking and attend follow-up visits as scheduled. Please make your decision after you have been fully informed of the risks and of alternative options. How is infrabrow excision (sub-brow lift) different from upper blepharoplasty?
Infrabrow excision removes loose eyelid skin from just below the brow while keeping your existing double eyelid line, whereas upper blepharoplasty removes sagging eyelid skin and fat and creates a double eyelid at the same time. The choice is made after examining your current double eyelid and the amount of eyelid fat.
Can I have it if I already have double eyelids?
Infrabrow excision tidies sagging skin while leaving the double eyelid as it is, so it can be planned after an examination even if you already have double eyelids.
How is it different from a brow lift?
A brow lift raises the position of the brows and the forehead with an endoscope through a small incision inside the hairline, whereas infrabrow excision removes loose skin below the brows to tidy droopy-looking eyes. The method is chosen depending on whether the brows themselves have drooped or the eyelid skin has become loose.
Where will the scar be?
The incision follows the lower border of the brow, so the incision line lies just below the brow. How the scar settles varies depending on your skin condition.
What are the anesthesia, surgery time, and recovery schedule?
The surgery takes about 60 minutes under local anesthesia or sleep anesthesia, and you go home the same day without hospitalization. Stitches are removed after about 7 days, makeup is possible from about 3 days after surgery, and about 1–2 follow-up visits are needed after surgery. How long swelling and bruising take to subside varies from person to person.
