ETONNE HOLISTIC FACIAL CONTOURING

3 Part Facial Contouring

Also called Facial Bone Contouring

3 Part Facial Contouring is a surgery that reduces or refines the bones of three areas, the cheekbones, the square jaw (the angular part of the lower jawbone), and the chin, together in a single operation to refine the width, length, and contour lines of the face. The wide side cheekbones are reduced, pushed inward, and fixed, the square jaw is resected in a long curve, and the chin is cut (osteotomy) to fit its length and position to the facial proportions, with the amount resected in each area decided by looking at the condition of both the bone and the soft tissue. At ETONNE in Gangnam, Seoul (Gangnam-daero, Nonhyeon Station), the surgery is performed by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kim Jaegon.

Smoothly carve and beautifully leave.

This is a complex facial contouring surgery that creates a natural and three-dimensional contour line by performing surgery on the cheekbones, square jaw, and chin tip together. All elements that make up the face are closely analyzed, and the amount of bone resection is adjusted considering the individual's facial characteristics to proceed with the surgery.

Check the remaining bones after surgery.

When unnecessary bones are removed, there is no place for soft tissues to settle, leading to sagging or deformation, ultimately resulting in an unattractive facial line. Removing only the bone that is truly necessary, without unnecessary resection, and leaving it well shaped helps reduce side effects and create a natural facial line.

“ Surgery is done for happiness, you know. Your face is part of your body too. It's not just about looking pretty right now; it has to be safe and usable for a long time. It should still be aesthetically pleasing and functional 20, 30 years down the line. ”

Doctor. Kim Jaegon

“ The textbooks tell you how to cut the bone. What's needed is that plus alpha. You've got to safely reduce the bone and accurately identify any other causes. That's why in contouring surgery, it's not just about the bone; you have to skillfully handle the soft tissue too. After all, the face isn't just made of bone. ”

Precautions

Swelling and bruising may occur after surgery, and how long they take to subside varies from person to person. A scar remains at the incision site, and in rare cases bleeding, infection, inflammation, or left–right asymmetry may occur, which may require additional treatment. Because the bones of three areas are operated on at once, swelling may occur across the whole face, and in the early period after surgery, opening your mouth or chewing may be uncomfortable. Because of the nerves that run near the lower jawbone and the chin, the sensation around the lower lip and chin may become dull, and after surgery on the cheekbones, the area around the cheeks and upper lip may feel numb; in rare cases, a nerve may be injured and reduced sensation may last a long time. If more bone than necessary is resected, the overlying flesh and muscle may appear to sag, and cheek sagging may occur if a large amount of cheekbone is reduced, if skin elasticity is lacking, or if there was sagging beforehand. In rare cases, the cheekbone or chin bone that was cut and moved may not join in place or may join out of position, which may require surgery to fix it again. Please tell us at your pre-surgery consultation about any medications you take, including blood thinners such as anticoagulants, as well as any medical conditions and whether you smoke. During recovery, please avoid alcohol and smoking and attend follow-up visits as scheduled. Please make your decision after you have been fully informed of the risks and of alternative options. Results and recovery vary from person to person.

FAQ

Do all three areas need to be operated on?

Not all three areas necessarily need surgery. Square jaw surgery, cheekbone reduction, and chin surgery can each be done separately, and at ETONNE we use 3D-CT to analyze the facial bones and soft tissues such as muscle, fat, and skin, and decide which areas to reduce and by how much. If the reason the face looks wide or saggy lies in the soft tissue, methods such as lifting, liposuction, and fat grafting are considered together.

Can the cheeks or the flesh around the jaw sag after surgery?

If more bone than necessary is resected, the overlying flesh and muscle have nowhere to settle and may appear to sag, so our principle is to resect only as much as is needed. Cheek sagging may occur if a large amount of cheekbone is reduced, if skin elasticity is lacking, or if there was sagging beforehand, so when needed, a lift is done at the same time or after watching your progress.

Where will the scars be?

Scars remain where the incisions are made. For the cheekbones, incisions are made inside the mouth and in front of the sideburns; the stitches at the incision in front of the sideburns are removed after about 7 days, and the inside of the mouth is closed with dissolvable sutures that are not removed. For the square jaw and chin, the incision is made inside the mouth. How the scars settle varies from person to person.

What are the anesthesia, surgery time, and recovery schedule?

The surgery takes about 180 minutes under general anesthesia, and you either go home the same day or stay in the hospital for 1 day. Stitches are removed after about 7 days, while dissolvable sutures are used inside the mouth and are not removed, and taping is removed after about 7 days, after which daily activities are possible. About 2–3 follow-up visits are needed after surgery. How long swelling and bruising take to subside varies from person to person.
