After the procedure, swelling, bruising, or a pulling or stiff sensation may occur; bruising and swelling usually subside within 1–2 weeks, but how long this takes varies from person to person. In thread lifting, the threads are inserted through a thin tube (cannula) without an incision. Dimpling, in which the skin where a thread was placed becomes indented, may occur; in most cases it disappears within 1 week, but if it persists, additional treatment may be needed. The skin surface may look bumpy for a while or a left–right difference may occur, and depending on how deep the threads were placed, you may feel tingling or reduced sensation for a while. While the pulling or stiff sensation remains, massaging your face or making exaggerated expressions may cause the threads to break or reduce the effect, so please avoid these for the period advised after the procedure. In rare cases, a hypersensitivity reaction to the anesthetic medication, infection, or inflammation may occur, and additional treatment may be needed in some cases. Very rarely, the end of a thread may be felt or may come out through the skin; if this happens, do not pull or cut the thread, and please visit the clinic. Pigmentation, in which the skin turns darker, may develop where inflammation occurred, so please apply sunscreen after the procedure. The inserted threads are absorbed over about 6 months, and the lifting effect lasts about 1.5–2 years, varying from person to person depending on the type of thread, skin condition, and degree of sagging. Please tell us at your pre-procedure consultation about any medications you take, including blood thinners such as anticoagulants, as well as any medical conditions, allergies, whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and whether you smoke. For the period advised after the procedure, please avoid alcohol and saunas, and contact the clinic if anything feels unusual. Please make your decision after you have been fully informed of the risks and of alternative options. Results and recovery vary from person to person.
