Redness, swelling, and bruising may occur at the injection sites; bruising and swelling usually subside within 1–2 weeks, but how long this takes varies from person to person. Small needle marks may remain at the injection sites, and how much they fade depends on your skin condition. The injected filler may be felt, the surface may look bumpy, or a left–right difference may occur, so additional treatment or a correction that dissolves the filler may be needed in some cases. The filler may clump so that small lumps (nodules) can be felt, or a foreign-body sensation may occur; if needed, the filler is dissolved. For about 2 weeks after the procedure, please do not press hard on or rub the treated area. If injected into a deeper layer, you may feel tingling or reduced sensation for a while. In rare cases, infection, inflammation, or a hypersensitivity reaction to the anesthetic cream or medication may occur, and additional treatment may be needed in some cases. A delayed hypersensitivity reaction, in which swelling, redness, firmness, or pain appears weeks to months after the procedure, may also occur. Pigmentation, in which the skin turns darker, may develop where inflammation occurred, so please apply sunscreen after the procedure. In rare cases, injected filler may block a blood vessel, causing the skin to change color or skin tissue to die (necrosis), and very rarely, decreased vision or blindness may occur; in that case, emergency treatment is required. If the skin in the treated area turns pale or red, or if you notice any change in your vision or visual field, please contact the clinic right away. Hyaluronic acid filler is generally absorbed over 12–18 months, during which the volume gradually decreases, and how quickly it is absorbed varies by area and from person to person. If you have had filler before, please tell us the type of filler at your consultation. Please tell us at your pre-procedure consultation about any medications you take, including blood thinners such as anticoagulants, as well as any medical conditions, allergies, whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and whether you smoke. For the period advised after the procedure, please avoid alcohol and saunas, and contact the clinic if anything feels unusual. Please make your decision after you have been fully informed of the risks and of alternative options. Results and recovery vary from person to person.
