After the procedure, temporary redness and a feeling of heat may occur, or wheals (raised, swollen patches of skin) and swelling may develop, and how long they take to subside varies from person to person. Depending on the type and intensity of the laser, scabs may form or marks may remain at the treated area, and how much the marks fade depends on your skin condition. Pigmentation, in which the treated area turns darker for a while, may develop, so please apply sunscreen after the procedure. In rare cases, burns, a hypersensitivity reaction to the anesthetic ointment or medication, infection, or inflammation may occur, and additional treatment may be needed in some cases. If you have an electronic medical device such as a pacemaker or have metal inside your body, there is a risk of burns or device malfunction, so be sure to tell us before the procedure. The number of sessions and intervals needed differ by type of laser, and how much effect appears and how long it lasts vary from person to person depending on skin condition. Please tell us at your pre-procedure consultation about any medications you take, including blood thinners such as anticoagulants, as well as any medical conditions, allergies, whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and whether you smoke. For the period advised after the procedure, please avoid alcohol and saunas, and contact the clinic if anything feels unusual. Please make your decision after you have been fully informed of the risks and of alternative options. Results and recovery vary from person to person.
