ETONNE CURATED EYE
Double Eyelid Surgery
Also called Asian Blepharoplasty
Double eyelid surgery is a surgery that creates a double eyelid line on the upper eyelid, and the method — buried suture, partial incision, or incision — is chosen according to the condition of the eyes. Unlike upper blepharoplasty, which tidies the skin and fat of eyelids that have sagged with age, its main purpose is to create a double eyelid line. At ETONNE in Gangnam, Seoul (Gangnam-daero, Nonhyeon Station), the surgery is performed by board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Cho Jeongmok, Dr. Kim Harkyoung, Dr. Kim Jaegon, and Dr. Koo Heetae.

POINT 1.
Detailed Diagnosis
Creating eyes that harmonize best with all the natural features of one’s face is crucial. ETONNE doesn’t just focus on the eyes; we consider what is necessary for the most beautiful eyes, taking into account the patient's entire facial condition to make informed decisions.
1. Brow position and shape
2. Eye opening strength(blepharoptosis) and skin sagging(pseudoptosis)
3. Shape of the outer corner and horizontal length
4. Use of the eyebrows for eye opening (brow compensation)
5. Amount of redundant skin
6. Thickness of eyelid skin
7. Shape of the lower lid and beyond
CASE & SOLUTION
When brow to lid length is narrow
Brow position correction AND / OR Blepharoplasty
Puffy eyes
Brow position correction AND / OR Fat removal
When use of brow elevation during eye opening
Blepharoptosis correction AND / OR Blepharoplasty AND / OR Brow position correction
Eyes appear tired
Blepharoptosis correction
Corner of the eyes looks droopy
Lateral canthoplasty
Simple cosmetic issues without complicated problems
Blepharoplasty
Corner of the eyes look upslanted
1. Correction of inner corner or Brow position correction 2. Lateral canthoplasty and vertical lengthening 3. Combination of the above
Rather than just creating a line or enlarging the eyes, the approach involves a comprehensive diagnosis considering various factors such as the distance between the outer corner of the eye and the orbital bone, eyebrow position, eyelid thickness, and the overall facial proportions for each case. This leads to a customized surgical plan and outcome. By analyzing the area around each individual's eyes and proceeding only with necessary procedures, a natural and balanced eye shape is achieved, avoiding any exaggerated results.

CURATED EYE SURGERY
Precautions
Swelling and bruising may occur after surgery, and how long they take to subside varies from person to person. The partial incision and incision methods leave a scar at the incision site. Regardless of the method, in rare cases bleeding, infection, inflammation, or left–right asymmetry may occur, which may require additional treatment. The course of recovery differs depending on the method — buried suture, partial incision, or incision. With the buried suture method, the knot of the thread may be felt or may show through the skin; in the early period after surgery, the line may look thick or the eyelids may feel tight; and over time the double eyelid line may loosen or become lower. Please tell us at your pre-surgery consultation about any medications you take, including blood thinners such as anticoagulants, as well as any medical conditions and whether you smoke. During recovery, please avoid alcohol and smoking and attend follow-up visits as scheduled. Please make your decision after you have been fully informed of the risks and of alternative options. Results and recovery vary from person to person.
Who It's For
When you have no double eyelid and your eyes look heavy
When your eyelids are thick and you are considering tidying the fat along with creating a double eyelid line
When you want a double eyelid line and have no major issues with your brow position or the strength with which you open your eyes
Does double eyelid surgery (Asian blepharoplasty) create a double eyelid line on eyes that don't have one?
Yes. Double eyelid surgery creates a double eyelid line on the upper eyelid. However, if you use your forehead muscles when opening your eyes, or your eyes lack strength and look sleepy, ptosis correction is considered as well, so at ETONNE we examine your brow position, whether you have ptosis, the amount of skin, and the thickness of your eyelids before choosing the method.
How do the buried suture (non-incisional), partial incision, and incision methods differ?
The buried suture method creates a double eyelid by continuously binding the skin and muscle with a thread, the partial incision method creates the line with a minimal incision, and the incision method creates the line while removing muscle and fat through an incision. At ETONNE, we choose the method after examining the thickness of your eyelids, the amount of skin, your brow position, and other factors.
How is double eyelid surgery different from upper blepharoplasty?
The main purpose of double eyelid surgery is to create a double eyelid line, whereas upper blepharoplasty tidies the skin, excess fat, and loose tissue of upper eyelids that have sagged with age and creates a double eyelid line in the process. If eyelids that have sagged with age are your main concern, this is explained separately on the Upper Blepharoplasty page in the Anti-aging section.
Will there be scars?
The partial incision and incision methods involve an incision along the double eyelid line, so a scar remains there, and how the scar settles varies depending on your skin condition. The buried suture method creates the line by binding the skin and muscle with a thread, so there are no stitches to remove, but small marks may remain where the thread was placed. The differences between methods are explained during your examination.
What are the anesthesia, surgery time, and recovery schedule?
The surgery takes about 20–30 minutes with the non-incisional method and about 40–50 minutes with an incision, under local anesthesia or sleep anesthesia, and you go home the same day without hospitalization. Stitches are removed after about 5–7 days if an incision was made and are not removed with the non-incisional method, makeup is possible from about 3 days after surgery, and about one follow-up visit is needed after surgery. How long swelling and bruising take to subside varies from person to person.
