ETONNE HOLISTIC FACIAL CONTOURING
Forehead Reduction
Also called Hairline Lowering
Forehead reduction is a surgery that lowers the hairline to reduce the vertical height of a wide forehead. Without transplanting hair, the width of the forehead is reduced to suit the proportions of your features while the hair of the original hairline, including the fine baby hairs, is left as it is, and when a forehead lift is done at the same time, forehead wrinkles and the position of the eyebrows can also be corrected. At ETONNE in Gangnam, Seoul (Gangnam-daero, Nonhyeon Station), the surgery is performed by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kim Jaegon.

FACIAL CONTOURING SPECIALIST

Doctor. Kim Harkyoung
“ Surgery is done for happiness, you know. Your face is part of your body too.
It's not just about looking pretty right now;
it has to be safe and usable for a long time.
It should still be aesthetically pleasing and functional 20, 30 years down the line.”
Doctor. Kim Jaegon
“ The textbooks tell you how to cut the bone. What's needed is that plus alpha. You've got to safely reduce the bone
and accurately identify any other causes. That's why in contouring surgery, it's not just about the bone; you have to skillfully handle the soft tissue too. After all, the face isn't just made of bone.”
Precautions
Swelling and bruising may occur after surgery, and how long they take to subside varies from person to person. A scar remains at the incision site, and in rare cases bleeding, infection, inflammation, or left–right asymmetry may occur, which may require additional treatment. The scar along the hairline may be visible depending on your hairstyle and hair density, and the hair around the incision line may become thinner or fall out for a while. After surgery, the forehead and scalp may feel numb or tight. How much the forehead can be reduced depends on how far the scalp can stretch and the shape of the hairline, so it is decided after an examination. Please tell us at your pre-surgery consultation about any medications you take, including blood thinners such as anticoagulants, as well as any medical conditions and whether you smoke. During recovery, please avoid alcohol and smoking and attend follow-up visits as scheduled. Please make your decision after you have been fully informed of the risks and of alternative options. Results and recovery vary from person to person.
Who It's For
When the forehead looks wide compared with your facial features
When a high hairline makes the face look long or large
When you want to reduce the width of the forehead while keeping the hair of your original hairline, without transplanting hair
When you want to reduce the width of the forehead and also correct forehead wrinkles or eyebrow position with a forehead lift
How is forehead reduction different from hair transplantation?
Forehead reduction is a surgery that lowers the hairline to reduce the height of the forehead, while hair transplantation fills in the hairline by moving and planting hair. Forehead reduction does not transplant hair and leaves the hair of the original hairline, including the fine baby hairs, as it is. Which method suits you is decided after examining the width of your forehead, the shape of your hairline, and the condition of your hair.
Can it be done together with a forehead lift?
Forehead reduction can be done on its own, and depending on the diagnosis, it is also planned together with a forehead lift (brow lift), which lifts the eyebrows and forehead. Forehead wrinkles and eyebrow position are corrected when a forehead lift is done at the same time, so at ETONNE we look at the forehead width, eyebrow position, and the proportions of your features together to decide the extent of surgery.
Where will the scar be?
Because the incision is made along the hairline, a scar remains there. How visible the scar is varies depending on your hairstyle, hair density, and skin condition.
What are the anesthesia, surgery time, and recovery schedule?
The surgery takes about 90 minutes under local anesthesia or sleep anesthesia, and you go home the same day without hospitalization. Stitches are removed after about 7 days, shampooing is possible from the day after surgery, and about two follow-up visits are needed after surgery. How long swelling and bruising take to subside varies from person to person.
